Sources & methodology
Latest targeted regulatory revisions: November 2026 · Regulatory changes monitored every month.
General principle
Italian Wine Data transforms information contained in product specifications and other official sources into structured data that can be used for search, comparison and calculation. This transformation makes the information easier to consult, but it does not replace the original regulatory document.
A faster way to consult production specifications
Each appellation page brings together concise tables of yields, grape varieties, ageing rules and requirements for individual wine types. The same data can be compared across appellations and used in calculators. Conditions and exceptions remain available: a summary must not turn a conditional rule into a universal value.
Regulatory source
The definitive reference is always the current official product specification and the related documentation published by the competent authorities.
PDF copies available on the site are project archive copies originating from the MASAF corpus used as the documentary baseline.

Individual appellation pages show the month of the latest review. The review date indicates when that record or link was checked within the project; it does not certify that no subsequent official changes have occurred.
From document to structured data
Where possible, rules are mapped to canonical fields such as maximum yield, minimum planting density, grape composition, grape-to-wine yield, ageing, analytical parameters, release dates and applicable conditions. Conditions that cannot be represented correctly by a single value remain explicit.
Calculators
The calculators apply transparent formulas to the available structured values. Their results are therefore project-derived calculations and should be read together with the rule used, its conditions and the cited documentary source.
Monthly regulatory monitoring and data updates
Each month the project checks official sources for newly published or amended product specifications. Relevant changes are incorporated into structured data after the applicable checks. Monthly monitoring does not imply that all 411 appellation records have been reverified that month.
Each appellation page retains its own review date. Official amendments may take time to be incorporated, so the current official source remains authoritative.
